Kitchen exhaust cleaning frequency is based on actual usage, fuel type, and observed buildup (NFPA 96’, Section 11.4).
Solid fuel cooking typically requires monthly inspections and monthly or quarterly cleaning (NFPA 96’, Sections 14.4 and 11.4).
High-volume cooking typically requires quarterly inspections and quarterly cleaning.
Moderate-volume cooking typically requires semi-annual inspections and semi-annual cleaning.
Low-volume cooking typically requires annual inspections and annual cleaning.
Systems with heavy grease or carbon buildup may require restoration before routine maintenance can resume (NFPA 96’, Section 11.6).
